5 Orchard players in DDSL starting 11 for under 15 Game
What a fantastic achievement for our 14 Premier team when 5 Cherry Orchard players were in the starting 11 for the DDSL under 15 Subway Inter league competition. Goalkeeper Kian Moore, centre half partnership of Josh Okpolokpo & William Chelaru, strikers Cian Kavanagh & Nathan Anyanwu. To top it all off a Clean sheet for the boys at the back, William Captained the DDSL once again and the only goal of the game was a strike from Nathan. Keep Working Hard boys. See match report below from DDSL website.
DDSL v Wexford Schoolboys
U15s SFAI Subway Interleague Competition
19/10/16
This was a game of missed chances for the DDSL, played under lights on the excellent grass pitches in Abbotstown, in front of a large crowd. After a frantic opening 10 minutes, the DDSL settled down and started to pass the ball around the pitch. They created their first opening of the game when a through ball sent Cian Kavanagh through on goal. After good work to hold off the defender he shot narrowly wide. More chances were to follow in a game where the DDSL missed a host of chances. Next up was Nathan Anyanwu who ran through on goal following an excellent pass by Ben McCormack but his shot failed to trouble the keeper. Ben McCormack then went close twice to opening the scoring. The best chance of the half fell to Val Adedokun, who put in a man of the match performance on the night, when he raced clear down the left just before half time but unfortunately his shot narrowly went over the bar.
Wexford’s chances were limited on the night thanks to some excellent defensive performances by the DDSL defence, who restricted their opponents to long range efforts that failed to trouble Cian Moore in the DDSL goal.
The DDSL upped the tempo in the second half and again created chances which they failed to take. The breakthrough finally came midway through the second half following a spell of possession where they moved the ball well across the pitch. The ball eventually found its way to the feet of McCormack who played the ball out to the left wing to Adedokun. He set off on a clever run across the Wexford box before setting up Nathan Anyanwu who fired high across the keeper into the far corner of the net to give the hosts a deserved lead.
The DDSL should have increased their lead with good chances falling to Koreda Odumoso and Nathan, before Val raced clear of the Wexford defence once more and forced an excellent save from the Wexford keeper.
The hosts were nearly punished in the closing minutes when Wexford worked the ball well up their left where an excellent cross was headed narrowly over the bar.
