Cherry Orchard FC U12 Premier had a hugely successful trip in winning the Football Cup Barcelona in Salou, Catalunya. A truly international competition with 10 countries being represented from all over Europe and further afield. On day one The Orchard won their Group A in emphatic style beating Heaton Hawks Juniors FC (England), NS Miklavz Dobrovce (Slovenia) and Union Sportive Terre Sainte (Switzerland) winning maximum points and without conceding a goal.
Day 2 and the Quarter Final drew Kapylan Pallo (Finland) in which the The Orchard boys performed brilliantly setting up a Semi-final with the much touted Europlus Internacional (Japan) however the Orchard boys were not going to be denied a much coveted place in the Final and produced the performance of the competition going on to win 9-0.
In the other Semi-Final FC Barcelona were beaten on penalties to set up a mouth watering Final of Ireland v England, the final drew a huge crowd viewing from the very impressive Futbol Salou stadium seating. The Orchard started this game on fire against South Moor Juniors (England) creating numerous chances which agonisingly just kept being kept out by the woodwork, good goalkeeping or good defending, until finally in the 10th minute the first goal came and from that moment the boys grew from strength to strength taking a commanding 3-0 lead at half time, the second half continued along the same lines with the game finishing with an impressive scoreline of 7-0 sparking great celebrations between the boys, their families and Coach’s.
The Orchard boys also had the honour of making a clean sweep of the individual trophies as Kian Clements won the Golden Glove as best goalkeeper of the tournament only conceding 1 goal in 6 games. Thomas Lonergan won the Golden Boot as the tournaments top goalscorer with 9 goals and finally Ben Quinn won the tournaments Best Player, all three boys thankful to their teammates in helping them receive this individual award.
This is a trip that will live long in the memory of all that were there and we express our sincere gratitude to the parents who provided great support not only for their own boys but for all the boys. The boys siblings and all of our 41 people that travelled to support the boys and create such a great atmosphere thank you.
C’mon The Orchard
