Michael Doyle achieved a significant milestone in his career earlier this season when he played his 500th league game in professional football in England in his sixth appearance for new club Portsmouth. Michael joined Celtic from Cherry Orchard in July 1999 and moved to Coventry City in 2003 without making a first team appearance for the Glasgow club. Michael played 264 league games for the Sky Blues and 42 for Leeds Utd in a season long loan in 2009-2010 - helping the Elland Road club to gain promotion to the Championship - before transferring to Sheffield Utd in January 2011. He played 188 times for the Blades and appeared in League and FA Cup semi-finals, losing the latter game 5-3 after extra-time to Stephen Quinn's Hull City in 2014. Michael also made one substitute appearance for the Republic of Ireland in 2006. Nowadays he captains Portsmouth, for whom Enda Stevens, another former Orchard player, is a regular in the team.
Well done Michael.
